7 Tips to get Radiant Glowing Wedding Skin

Congratulations! You’re getting married!

Your wedding is going to be awesome, because you are awesome!

Weddings are special because they ARE a life-changing event. Promises are made, lives become intertwined - Individuals and families join to become one. That is why it is so important that we take a lot of photos to remember the special date. And we all want to look great in those photos! So let’s dive in to our top tips to getting that gorgeous glowing wedding skin for your big day!

Tip #1 Start Early

How soon should you start? Most skincare experts agree that if you have time, start a strict skincare regime a year ahead of your wedding. This will give you time to look for products that work best for your skin, and allow your skin to get used to the products - reducing incidences of redness and blotchiness that can crop up from time to time.

Don’t have a year? That’s fine too. But start as soon as possible and use the best quality products that you can get for your skin. For the brides-to-be, we suggest Huxley’s Brightening Routine, a 3-step program formulated with ingredients to brighten skin tone and clarify skin.

Tip #2 Facial Massages

Your wedding is the perfect excuse to get pampered by a professional. Or you could invest in DIY facial massage gadgets to stimulate blood circulation, collagen repair and gently exfoliate to reveal baby soft skin. Our team loves the Foreo Luna (not sponsored!) for it’s super soothing sonic pulsations and hygiene-friendly silicone body. The vibrations help moisturizing creams glide over skin and soak in whilst offering an anti-aging massage. The best thing? A whole massage take just 1 minute.

We like to use our Luna with Huxley’s Cream; More Than Moist. We swear that the sonic vibrations help stimulate the skin (feels tingly!) and the cream gets absorbed faster and more evenly.

Tip #3 Trust Me On The Sunscreen

Early Egyptians and other ancient civilizations worshiped the sun as the life-giving force. However sun exposure is responsible for the the main visible signs of aging. These include wrinkles, sun spots, pigmentation, reduced skin elasticity and degradation of skin texture. Sun exposure, or specifically UV radiation can damage skin structure from within, as well as cause painful burns and blisters that scar, or worse cause skin cancer.

So the moral of the story is, PLEASE wear sunscreen, whatever your skin tone. Choose a sunscreen with a high SPF rating as well as a high PA rating which tells you the level of protection from UVA radiation, which cause wrinkles and age spots.

Huxley Sun Cream; Stay Sun Safe is rated SPF50+ and PA++++. It combines the gentle moisturising and antioxidant effect of Huxley’s signature ingredient the prickly pear seed oil with a excellent sun protection that can be worn under makeup or on its own, and is safe for the whole family.

Tip #4 Moisturise!

A common misconception is that it is that if you do not have to moisturize if you have oily skin or if the weather is humid. Why would you want to make your face shinier than it already is?

In normal and oily skin, external factors such as pollution, UV rays, and excessive cleansing can damage skin’s moisture barrier, causing loss of moisture and an increase in oil production. As it turns out, applying a suitable moisturizer can curb oil production and reduce common skin ailments.

Properly moisturized skin will be more wrinkle-resistant and be less prone to acne. How? Dehydrated skin can develop a low-grade inflammation which could lead to a breakdown of collagen and accelerate the signs of aging. As for acne, it could be caused by an imbalance in the oils produced by the sebaceous glands. Using moisturizing products which contain oils rich in linoleic acid help correct this imbalance and prevent acne flare ups.

For a light, barely-there but effective hydration, we recommend the Huxley Essence; Grab Water and Cream; Fresh and More combination. The watery essence and gel-like consistency of the cream provide a power moisture barrier whilst remaining refreshing and non-greasy.

Tip #5 Mask Up

We know you’re busy and have a million things to do before the wedding. But if you have 15 minutes to sit still, grab a sheet mask to give your skin a little extra boost. Sheet masks hug the skin and deliver a higher concentration of skincare ingredients for an extended time. This allows the serum that’s in the mask to deeply hydrate and nourish your skin.

Use a mask about one or twice a week to get the most out of your sheet mask. And of course right before the big day. Skin that have been masked tend to look instantly plumped with hydration, so save one mask sheet for right before the wedding makeup goes on!

Huxley’s sheet masks come with in a unique dual-pouch system that keeps oil and essence separate until right before you want to use them. This ensure maximum freshness of the serum for maximum effect.

Tip #6 Wash your brushes, blenders and cushions

This is another acne buster tip. Makeup tools can harbour bacteria that cause acne at best, and at worse cause skin or eye infections. Yuck! Shampoo and dry makeup tools regularly, or immediately after use to ensure only clean and safe surfaces come into contact with your skin.

Bonus related tip: Washcloths can harbor bacteria too. So don’t use a washcloth on your face. Just use your hands. An invest in a separate makeup remover to gently but effectively remove waterproof makeup before cleansing. You might want to give Huxley’s Cleansing Water; Be Clean, Be Moist. Enriched with cactus extract instead of water, this cleansing water is less irritating than typical water-based makeup removers.

Tip #7 Treat yourself (Often)

As the most important person of the wedding, we definitely think that you deserve to indulge in some self-pampering. What might be even better, would be to make it a treat for the both of you. After all, he’s going to be in some of the photos too, right?

Create your very own spa experience at home with Huxley’s Spa Routine Trio and spend some TLC time with the fiancee. Start off with the Scrub Mask; Sweet Therapy to exfoliate and slough away all that dull, dead skin to reveal a silky smooth radiant complexion.

Next, follow up with the Healing Mask; Keep Calm. This unique cactus-jelly textured mask deeply soothes and hydrates tired skin, while the powerful antioxidants penetrate the layers of the skin to fight free radicals that cause skin aging and cell damage.

Finally, cap of the spa night with the ultra-nourishing Sleep Mask; Good Night. The mask leaves no sticky, uncomfortable feeling, but works overnight to deeply hydrate and plump skin for a supple, youthful appearance.
